STEAM INCURSION – STATES OF MATTER

On Thursday the 3rd of August the Year 3s had an incursion for STEAM about the States of Matter. Students have been learning about the properties of solids, liquids, and gases and what better way to understand how the states of matter behave than to watch them in action.

PrimeSCI! By Swinburne University delivered the 1-hour workshop to our students where they got the opportunity to make chemicals explode, perform hypothesis and tests, and play with Oobleck. Oobleck is a substance that acts as both a solid and liquid depending on how much pressure is applied to it. Safe to say this was a favourite amongst our students as they got to get their hands messy.

We are very proud of our Year 3 students as they demonstrated our school values throughout the entire workshop, were curious and asked lots of questions and were engaged in the learning taking place. It was great to see them having lots of fun and happy smiles on their faces.

Some of the feedback from our students about the incursion was very positive and great to hear.

“I enjoyed the liquid that sucked our hands in the most!”

“One thing I learnt was about heat energy and that you can put something cold next to something hot and it takes away the heat energy.”

“I enjoyed everything so much. I really liked the rocket, it was funny.”

“I learnt that gas is faster than solid and liquid.”

“The thing I enjoyed the most was the rocket explosion!”

“One thing I learnt was there is a whole lot of different types of matter.”

“When can I do it again? I loved it so much!”

Well done to Ms Po our awesome STEAM teacher for organising a great learning and engaging incursion! Other year groups have had a STEAM incursion this week too.

WHAT AN AMAZING COMMUNITY AT MARAMBA

On Sunday 6th August we had some amazing parents, children and staff who kindly volunteered some of their valuable time for the benefit of the entire school community.

Even though we didn't have as many volunteers as last time, everyone including the children worked really hard and well together from tidying the school grounds to weeding the gardens.

At the end of the working bee, everyone enjoyed an Aussie hotdog some homemade baked sweets and a cool drink to say thank you and reenergise.

PREMIER'S READING CHALLENGE

This year's challenge ends in just under a month, 28 days to be exact, on the 8th of September! We already have a number of students who have completed the challenge!

Well done to Jack A, Elly B, Sonja B, Sabrina C, Toby G, Jeremiah G, Shivansh K, Mia K, Steffy M, Alexander P, Walter P, Gopi T, Dominic W and Tim W. There are many other students who are very close to finishing. Will you join those who have completed the challenge!

If you have finished the Challenge - keep entering your books, as we will be announcing our Class Challenge Champions for each class and our School Challenge Champion. Our Champions will be receiving some special recognition at assembly at the completion of the Challenge.

The Super Reader for this week is Toby from the Hard Working Hive and the Super Reading Class this week is the Powerful Pride!

YOUR FEEDBACK MATTERS TO US!

Dear Parents and Carers,

Each year the school conducts an opinion survey with the school community. A random sample of approximately 30 per cent of parents and carers have been selected to participate in the survey. The survey is designed to assist schools in gaining family feedback about our school with the survey results used to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies.

The survey is conducted anonymously, and it is important to us that you complete the survey as honestly as possible.

If you are one of the families randomly selected, I ask you to please take the time to complete the survey as your opinions are important to us and will contribute to the future management and organisation of our school.

NOTE: Only one parent or carer from your family is invited to complete the survey.
The survey will be conducted online and should take 20 minutes to complete.
The survey can be completed on any internet enabled device (iPad, Desktop or Laptop, Smartphone) and is compatible with most browsers.
The survey will be open for 8 days from Monday 7 August to Friday 8th September.
The survey is available in English and 10 other languages including Arabic, Greek, Hakha Chin, Hindi, Japanese, Punjabi, Simplified Chinese, Somali, Turkish, and Vietnamese.

BOOK WEEK CELEBRATION

Each year across Australia, the CBCA brings children and books together celebrating CBCA Book Week. During this time schools, libraries, booksellers, authors, illustrators and children celebrate Australian children's literature.

We are very excited to be able to celebrate Book Week together this year! On Thursday 24th of August, we will once again hold our School Book Week Parade. Students are invited to dress up as a book character and participate in this supportive and encouraging display of our love of books! There will be a book voucher prize for best costume in each year level as well as prizes for the best home-made costume and costume based on this year’s theme.

We invite parents and carers to join us.
