Japanese

Teizo Kato

Japanese Teacher

This Semester, in years 5 and 6 students learnt about ‘Haiku’. Haiku is a three-line poem with seventeen syllables, written in a 5-7-5 syllable count. Haiku poems should include seasonal words. Often focusing on images from nature, Haiku emphasises simplicity, intensity, and directness of expression.

The students have created a Haiku poem with some illustrations. At the end of ‘Haiku’ learning, students shared their Haiku and then each student voted for the Haiku poem they liked best. Also, Years 5 and 6 Teachers and Principals selected five ‘Haiku’ poems to share with our sister school and possibly be entered into their Haiku competition this year. Congratulations to Amy. L, Aston, Chris, Errie and Sean.

It was great to see all the wonderful Haiku poetry.

Japanese / Performing Arts Cultural Day

We are very happy to announce our Japanese / Performing Arts Cultural Day on Thursday 3rd November. This day has been almost 2 and a half years in the making as it was originally scheduled to coincide with the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games 2020!! On this day, students will experience Rhythms of Africa, Bollywood Dancing and Taiko Drumming incursions as well as participate in Japanese art activities.

Recess for all students will be 10.40am - 11.10am and lunch for all students will be from 1.00pm - 1.40pm. This is to enable adequate time for all the incursions. Students in Years 4 - 6 will be dismissed at 3.20pm as usual.

Dress options for students are:

  1. Japanese costume - but must be able to move freely in it
  2. Japanese colours: any clothing that is red and/or white

We are looking forward to a fantastic day.
