Upper Hunter Beef Bonanza

AG Team – Wrap Up

From the 20th to the 23rd of October the AG Team represented KHS at the Upper Hunter Beef Bonanza at Scone. The weather ranged from wet to raining, to pouring down, but this didn’t dampen the team’s spirits. All students got in and had a go, and performed well individually and as a team. Scone is a big regional show, so to receive any ribbon is a big achievement. I would like to acknowledge all team members for performing well and share with you, their achievements.

The ICMJ team and I would like to thank Jamie and the team at Milly Hill who again gave up significant time to educate the team during some practical sessions at their butchery, in preparation for this event.

Thank you to Peter McGillchrist and the UNE Meat Science team for their assistance with educational resources.

Thank you to Jonti and the team at Wingham Abattoirs, as well as, Dan’s Mobile Butchers from earlier in the year.

Kempsey High School community and parents should be proud of all students in the AG Team and how they represented KHS. From Steer leaders to senior show seasoned students, to Year 7 rookies, they all performed exceptionally well. With little show opportunity from the prior 2 years due to Covid, it was pleasing to see experience students to teach, and young students learn the craft that is needed for the show circuit.

Some special mentions, our Year 7 Rookies – Lucas News, Lucas Hancock, and of course Zach Irwin, could not be faulted for their enthusiasm, work ethic, and eagerness to learn.

Also, thanks to Mr Brad Notley who joined us for the journey which greatly assisted the team and me. Thank you to Kerry and Scott Carter, and Rebecca Kucinskis for their assistance throughout the 4-day event.

Last, but not least, a massive thank you to Nat Weismantel for her huge contribution at the event and in the lead-up, for tying everything together and keeping Brad and me sane.
