Viticulture

Over the last few weeks Mr Cruickshank has been demonstrating to students the skill of pruning wine and table grapes.  This has  given students the opportunity to complete their work books and commence assessments.

Year 10

This week the Year 10s attending Farm have been involved in animal handling demonstrations at beef and sheep rather than being rostered to a Farm section.   This gives staff the opportunity to demonstrate the skill of animal handling and drafting, before allowing students the chance to practice their skills without any additional pressure of “having to get the job done”.

Farm Skills Cancellation

During the last week of Term 3 the Perth Royal Ag Society holds the annual Farm Skills Competition at the show grounds, where all the Ag Colleges assemble and participate in a range of agricultural based activities.  Activities such as tractor driving, welding, shearing and wool handling are undertaken.  Unfortunately, due to the public holiday on the 22nd September, the RAS had to postpone the event until next term.  A date is yet to be confirmed.

Perth Royal Show - AWI Challenge

Mr Adams will be attending the Perth Royal Show with four students on the 24th - 26th September exhibiting the College stud ewes.  Tristan Clarke, Ella Gardner, Paige Kirk and Charlotte Telini-Mazza will be taking part in sheep judging and handling events.

On Tuesday the 27th September six students will be competing in the AWI Young Breeders Challenge with four merino wethers. Will Armstrong, Tristan Clarke, Kimberley Mannion, Josh Miller, Ella Rendall and Alyssa Rijkers will be competing in the AWI Ag College Challenge which involves shearing, wool handling and sheep judging.

We wish them all the best.
