Year 3 Spotlight
FORCES
This term in Science Year 3 are learning all about Forces and how things move.
Have you ever wondered how many different ways you can move a balloon? Year 3 made predictions and tested their theory by blowing up balloons and then finding the different ways they could be moved.
We discovered lots of different ways to move it using pushing and pulling forces. We then tested how to change the shape, speed or direction of the balloon. We also discovered that the Year 3 students are full of hot air but none of them can tie a balloon.
We finished the lesson by testing our reactions by popping the balloons. Results - very quick reaction times and very loud.
TAMWORTH EISTEDDFOD DEBATING TEAM
This year the Tamworth Eisteddfod has decided to include a debating section. St Nicholas has entered a Stage 3 team to compete, consisting of Mia Scott, Eve Simpson, Lyla Davidson and Ruby Cook.
On Monday, the girls participated in their first round debate against Oxley Vale Public School. We hosted the debate and the topic was "That every student should learn a musical instrument." After flipping a coin to decide, we were declared the affirmative team.
The girls had 1 hour to prepare for the debate and were unaware of the topic beforehand. They were extremely persuasive in their arguments and all spoke confidently. At the conclusion of the debate, the adjudicator announced St Nicholas as the winning team.
Thank you to Lacey Hutton and Eve Sedon who were our Chairperson and Timekeeper.
Our next debate is against Nemingha Public School and will be held tomorrow. We know that the girls will do a wonderful job and look forward to seeing how they go.
