SLC Camp

SLC Camp 2020

On Wednesday 26 February, myself along with 50 of my fellow SLC members headed off for another exciting and eventful SLC Camp.  This was an awesome time for us as we were able to plan our busy year ahead for Frankston High School and the SLC, meet new people and build awesome friendships with people from other year levels.  We continued to develop everyone’s exceptional leadership capabilities as well as participate in various fun activities such as Laser Strike and Crate Climb.

Along with planning our amazing 2020 year for us, we were also very grateful to have a couple of guest speakers come along and take time out of their lives to speak to us about certain qualities of being a leader.  We had a visit from Dr Jake Martin, a biologist who works with various animal and plant species who told us his story of how he succeeded in life and the struggles he faced and had to overcome to reach his goal.  He also showed us that leadership is something that that everyone possesses, and everyone is able to make a difference by being a leader.

As well as Dr. Jake Martin, we had a visit from two former School Captains from Frankston High School, Guy Taylor and Lily Chapple.  They ran an awesome session with us about the benefits of goal setting and how setting goals and motivation are extremely helpful with being able to stay on top of things in a busy school and social life.

Of course, SLC Camp would not be SLC Camp without our amazing Disco Nights and Skit Nights which never disappoint and are always a highlight to everyone’s SLC Camp.  The ending of camp however is always a hard one though as we have to say goodbye to the Year 12 students for whom, some of them have been on this camp for nearly five years.  It’s always very emotional but we wish all the best for the Year 12 students and the busy year they have ahead of them.

Overall SLC Camp once again has been a massive highlight for my 2020, I’ve had the chance to meet some wonderful new people and build long lasting friendships that will last a long time.  I love SLC Camp and if anyone was considering joining the SLC I highly suggest that you do.  It’s an experience that I’m sure you’ll love!  There will be information on Compass near the end of Term 2 on how you can join.

Thank you to Mrs Sarah Bahramis, Mr Adam Martin, Ms Alarna Summers, Ms Kate Burgess, Ms Georgie Long, Mr Mal Burt, Mr John Russell and Mrs Kirsten Bakker for attending this great camp.
