Birdman Rally

Birdman Rally!!

Again this year on Sunday 8 March the Year 9 LEAD Class of Frankston High School took part in the Birdman Rally, a charity event that takes place as part of the Moomba Festival.  The LEAD class support Dogs for Kids with Disabilities (DKD) and tried to raise as much money as possible!

The Birdman Rally competition takes place at Birrarung Marr and it is a competition where people jump off a platform in their ‘craft’ and land in the Yarra River - the point is to try to ‘fly’ as far as possible.  It was a wonderful day, our craft and amazing pilot Guy Taylor managed to fly 7 metres!

We are excited to be supporting DKD, which is a not-for-profit organisation, providing assistance and companion dogs to children with autism spectrum disorders, and other developmental disorders.  Each of the dogs are specially trained to accompany their child and help them to live life to the fullest!  These dogs are trained to prevent bolting, decrease self-harm behaviours and reduce melt-downs, as well as help children, sleep better, reduce anxiety and build communication skills.

The Frankston High School LEAD Class is enjoying sponsoring DKD to raise money to help train dogs to assist young Australians.  We needed to raise at least $1000 to participate in the Birdman Rally – but we are hoping to exceed this target! We would really appreciate any donations to this amazing cause.  If you are able to help us in our adventure and donate to the cause you can find our Go Fund Me page HERE or donate directly to DOGS FOR KIDS.

The LEAD Class would like to thank everyone who was involved in the making of our Scooby Doo Mystery Tour craft.  The students are; Andrew Gourley, Alex Doherty, Blake Wischki, Amelia Derrick, Grace Bamford, Zane Davies, Jack Fiala, David Vereshchagin, Harry Dartnell, Subi Pandey, Allira Reid, Jordan Lancaster and Lachlan Halliday.  We would also like to thank Guy Taylor (our incredible pilot) who attended all craft making sessions and our teachers; Mrs Elise Roper, Mr Matt Turner, Mr Heath Booth and Mrs Sarah Bahramis.
