Week 3 and 4

Grade 3 and 4 Pinch Pot Monsters

We all remember making pinch pots when we were at school, but did you ever transform one into a monster? Grade 3 and 4 students got their creativity limbered with a series of drawings based on the works of cartoonist and illustrator Anna Bron. Even though it has been 12 months since making with clay, students remembered the process of making pinch pots and worked their clay superbly to make the perfect mouths for their monster. Recalling the saying "scratch and slip makes clay stick" all students successfully added features such as fangs, tongues, horns and eyeballs. Next week we add claws, feet and tails. Watch this space to see how our monsters evolve!

Grade 5 and 6 Name Plaques

Rolling clay slabs is precision work. Grade 5 and 6 students worked in pairs to create their  slabs. They used wooden batons, ensuring uniform thickness whilst rolling their clay. A simple shape was chosen to mark out their tile or plaque. Next week we work on creating the text. Perhaps we will make a house number or a 'no junk mail' sign, or maybe even a name plaque for our room. Whether we carve or create 3D script will be the choice of the artist.
