Bookmark Competition

Thank you so much to everyone who entered the Library Bookmark Competition this year. Our judging panel was amazed by the talent and creativity shown by students and it was harder than ever to narrow them down to only 4 bookmarks.

Big congratulations go to Ruslana T, Amelie W, Zoe W and Zac C whose designs were selected to be professionally printed as the library bookmarks for 2023. They will be available at the library desk later this term for borrowers to take away. We can’t wait to see them in print!

Premiers' Reading Challenge

The 2023 Premiers’ Reading Challenge is open –22 VBC students have joined the challenge, and finished 155 books so far - wow! Students who join up earn housepoints as well as being in the running for Reader of the week and Book Week prizes.

Our first 3 readers of the week were Ibrahim (for an enthusiastic start to the challenge), Jade (for her engaging book reviews) and Adele (who impressed us with her wide reading choices). Well done all!

PRC suggests you challenge yourself to read 15 books by September – but you can make the challenge your own and set a goal that works for you. It's a fantastic way to get motivated, and studies show that more reading leads to better performance across ALL subject areas. It also:

· Improves memory and concentration

· Increases empathy

· Expands your vocabulary

Joining the challenge gives you access to an online dashboard where you can record your progress. For log-in details come and see Chloe or Jordan in the library or message us @vbclibrary (MS Teams or email).

Here is a snapshot of some of the books our challengers have been enjoying.

Book Club

Book Club meets monthly in C6 – last month we discussed verse novels – novel length narratives told through poetry – most book clubbers were new to verse novels but really enjoyed them, finding the pacing made for an engaging read. Next month’s meeting will be talking about dark academia (books set in schools or college where dark things happen!) - readers will be sharing mood boards relating to their reading. New members are always welcome to join!
