From the Principal Class
Dear Viewbank College Community,
We have had a positive start to the term, with students returning refreshed and ready to engage with the academic and co-curricular program at the College.
We were very fortunate to be able to run the music camp at the end of term 1. Our staff have been extraordinary in their support of the camps. We look forward to the Year 7 camp soon, the Year 9 LEAD program and Work Experience for Year 10 students.
Our second Student/Parent/Teacher meetings ran last week, and it was great to see so many parents attend onsite. Building connections and having the community engaging with the College is a priority and conferences provide meaningful feedback on student progress.
Community Forum - Postponed - to be rescheduled in term 4
On Tuesday May 23, Viewbank College is holding a Community Forum starting at 7.00pm.
The hot topic for the forum is ‘The Future of Education at Viewbank’. The Forum will comprise table discussions about our overarching purpose as a learning environment in an age of unprecedented disruption.
There will also be Q&A opportunity with the Principal panel.
If you wish to attend, bookings are available on Try Booking.
ANZAC Day
One of the wonderful traditions the College maintains is the ANZAC day commemoration. The College ran two assemblies – a Senior and Middle Assembly. Our student leaders did a wonderful job leading this assembly, and a number of students spoke about their own families’ experiences across a number of conflicts.
Special thanks to our local Member for Ivanhoe, the Honourable Anthony Carbines, for his continued support of the commemoration and the laying of a wreath in memory of those who served.
Facilities Update
We are continuing our efforts to improve the facilities at the College.
Our new VCE centre is progressing well. It is a modular building, and we expect it will be delivered in July and hopefully ready by August for use.
We are hoping to get our walking trail started in June. This will take up to six weeks to complete.
There are more plans, including further painting. We will start refurbishing the lunch box, to make it a more amenable space for students to enjoy at breaks and as a study space.
Any donations to the building fund will be much appreciated and well used!
