PRAYER

Loving God,

help us to be more, to give more.

As the forty days of Lent progress

guide us in your loving compassionate ways

so, we may see the vulnerable and marginalised

within our midst.

We ask this prayer through Christ our Lord,

                             Amen.

From the Principal

Dear Parents,

As Term One comes to an end I express my gratitude to all staff at St Philip’s for their ongoing commitment and dedication to our students and their families. It has been a positive and productive start to the year with all students settling into classroom routines and engaging in teaching and learning activities.

All learning this term has been underpinned by our broad concept ‘belonging’. Having this as our focus has enabled students to experience belonging and connectedness to our community while also learning how they can support others through respectful relationships.

Child Safety

At St Philip’s we commit to listening to all concerns voiced by St. Philip’s Primary School families, staff, clergy, volunteers and contractors about keeping children and young people safe from harm. Our Child Safety Code of Conduct applies to all physical and online environments used by students. It also applies during or outside of school hours and in other locations provided by the school for student use.

As mentioned in our previous newsletter, concerns were recently raised about safety in our car park. Please be reminded that we have specific drop off and pick up zones in our car park and dropping your child off or picking them up at unspecified locations and having them walk across the road can put them or others in danger.

It is important that we all model and encourage children to adhere to safe practises at all times in the carpark. Teachers on duty are there to support our Policy and Code of Conduct and will kindly ask motorists and pedestrians to adhere to the rules at all times in the interest of creating a continued safe flow of traffic for all community members.

AFL Football Clinic

Next Monday all students will engage in an AFL led football clinic. A representative from the AFL will lead two sessions, Prep to Grade 2 and Grades 3 to 6 during the middle block. Students can wear their sports uniform and their football jumper, or similar, on Monday.

Project Compassion

Supporting Project Compassion is important to our students, not just from the charitable aspect of donating money but also in learning that their contribution can create change in the lives of others. Students learn that the money we donate to Caritas contributes to the implementation of initiatives such as education programs, agricultural projects, and developing infrastructure that supports clean drinking water in communities. These initiatives contribute to the dignity of others through increasing their participation in society and giving them a voice in their own communities.

Next Tuesday we will be holding a Mission Fair with the aim to raise more money for Project Compassion. Each class will be doing something different on the day and you will receive information from classroom teachers about what your child/ren is doing. The inspiration behind our fair comes from Francis Mitcham who had the idea for a fundraiser and we look forward to working together as a community next week.

Our Lenten journey and Holy Week

As part of their Lenten journey, next week, students will reflect on the days of Holy week told through the life of Jesus.

On Holy Thursday we will gather in prayer and retell and reflect on Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday and Good Friday. Parents are invited to join us for the prayer service at 9.15am in the Fr Arnold Centre.

Easter Raffle

We will assemble at 12.30am on Holy Thursday for our final assembly and to draw the Easter raffle. Parents are welcome to the attend. Thank you to everyone who has donated to the raffle and thank you to Brigette Poole for organising the raffle prizes.

School Closure Day

A reminder that our first closure day for this year is planned for Monday 24 April, 2023. On this day staff will engage in first aid training.  Term 2 will begin on Wednesday 27 April.

Wishing you all a safe and happy Easter and holiday season.
