Farewell message from the Principal
It is with a combination of sadness and excitement that I am informing the school community that I have accepted a position as Principal of a brand new Department of Education Secondary School that will be built in the Melton area. I begin in this role as of the first day of term 2.
The Department of Education has begun the process of appointing a new Principal for Kurunjang Secondary College. This will be in two stages. An Acting Principal will be appointed for term 2 and 3 while the process to select the substantive principal proceeds. The Department of Education will then work with our School Council to appoint the new Principal by the start of term 4.
It has been an incredible honour and privilege to lead Kurunjang Secondary College since being appointed Principal the best part of seven years ago. As I have said many times, I have found Kurunjang to be a very welcoming, positive and respectful school community. From my very first day I was impressed by the warmth and openness of this community. As teachers our rewards are simple – we rejoice when we see our students learn, when we see the spark of understanding that lights enthusiasm and passion that unlocks talent. As teachers we also celebrate just as much for the student who achieves a remarkable result (and there have been plenty of those over the years) to the ones who stick it out, work hard and make their way in life. I have enjoyed and sometimes marvelled at our students enthusiasm and energy.
I am proud of the culture of aspiration, achievement and inclusion that is on display every day in our school, and I want to acknowledge the efforts of all staff, students and families who have made and continue to make this possible over these past 7 years.
I particularly want to thank my team of amazing Assistant Principals and the wonderful Leadership Team of the College who work tirelessly and with such integrity in leading their respective teams on a journey of school improvement that continues on a daily basis. Although there are too many to name here, I continue to be in awe of their ability and commitment to this school. The school has also been blessed with three outstanding School Council presidents during my tenure – Tracy Bradley, Joyce Axiaq and, since 2020, Craig Matthews - and I have very much appreciated their supportive leadership and the efforts of all involved on School Council.
Thank you for the experiences and memories that you have gifted to me. I will miss Kurunjang SC; this is a great community and I have appreciated my time here. I wish every family all the best and hope that every child enrolled here continues to enjoy the exciting educational opportunities provided by this school.
