Teachers working on RAP

Yo yo yo...not, not that kind of RAP. It actually stands for Reconciliation Action Plan.

Near the end of Term One, ASPS staff had the opportunity to attend two valuable professional learning sessions to build their understanding of perspectives around the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice to Parliament.

The first session was at the Murnong Art Gallery in Glen Iris, led by Reverend Glenn Loughrey, a Wiradjuri elder, artist and author. During this session, we learned of the history and significance of the beautiful native Wominjeka garden, before taking place in a yarning circle where we came to understand indigenous perspectives on the Voice, treaty, justice

The following afternoon, supported by Glenn as well as two Koorie Education Support Officers, Sean and Mark, staff worked in groups to further develop our schools acknowledgement of country, and the school’s Reconciliation Action Policy (RAP). All those attending were highly engaged with the content and substantial progress was made towards the RAP and agreement on appropriate language to use and how to write acknowledgement to country with our students.

The direct outcomes of the sessions were palpable with immediate action visible by several staff members. Next term, we will be continuing this valuable work.
