Year 5 News

Robotics

Year 5 students have been enjoying working on Robotics with Mrs Graham using Lego Spike Prime. This will be a regular feature every Monday for the remainder of term. This allows students to develop skills in collaboration, creativity and critical thinking, building the models and using coding in order to make them mobile.

The students have had 2 sessions and already we are seeing some fantastic creations as they develop their skills and build their confidence with this technology.

This week in class, Mrs Graham was teaching us robotics with the Spike sets (Robotics Lego). It was really fun, I made a robotic motorbike. Nate and Archie, who were sitting next to me, were building a car without the instructions.

After I had built my motorbike, I had to connect the hub. After connecting the hub, I had to program it to move forward.  I think it’s very hard to make but It was lots of fun.

I loved doing Robotics because it enhances creativity and it is also very fun working with the motors to make something amazing. I think that the mechanics are very interesting and it involves a lot of problem solving. Lego and Robotics put together makes a good combo and I would recommend that all kids down load the app and get the Lego pieces.

This week, I made a machine with three wheels that moved very fast even though I couldn’t get it connected to the app, I could still use the motor to make it work.
