Respectful Relationships Program

Beaumaris North Primary School has begun to develop an understanding about the Respectful Relationships Program and the positive impact it can make in schools and the wider community. An Implementation Team has been established and these members attended Induction Training a few weeks ago.

There are six stages to developing a Whole School Approach, we are currently in the first phase ‘School Leadership and Commitment’.

1.       School Leadership and Commitment

2.       School Culture and Environment

3.       Professional Learning

4.       Teaching and Learning

5.       Community Engagement (student, family and wider community)

6.       Support for Staff and Students

Respectful Relationships Education is a whole school approach to prevention of family violence. The Whole School Approach to Respectful Relationships recognises that change in practice, policies and curriculum is required to drive real change. The curriculum challenges gender stereotypes and promotes respectful relationships. It recognises the important role schools play in positively impacting the behaviours and attitudes of students, staff, parents and the wider community.

Stride Education – ‘Supportive Friends’ Program

On Tuesday 9 November, our Year 6 students participated in a Virtual ‘Supportive Friends’ workshop with their class. This session was delivered by Stride Education.

The key concepts of the session include:

  • understanding friendship
  • understanding myself (my mindset and emotions)
  • how to stay calm, focused and adapt to change
  • importance of self-care

A huge shout out to Andrea Golshevsky from SFYS (School Focused Youth Services – Bayside and Kingston) who has organised funding for this session and provided an opportunity for our students in Year 5 and 6 to further develop their social and emotional skills prior to attending our upcoming school camps. Andrea has always been a wonderful support to BNPS and was also was integral in organising the opportunity for some Year 5 students to participate in the ‘Better Me’ Program this year.

Our Year 5 students will participate in the program on Thursday 25 November.
