WELCOME, YEAR 7

 First Day for Year 7

Friday 31 January was the first day of High school for the year 7 students. They  were welcomed by the Coordinators and then joined their new classes for introductory lessons.

In the afternoon, Peer Support leaders  took the new year 7 students through a variety of fun activities, designed to help students  to get to know each other.

Welcome Program

Transition from primary school to secondary school is an important stage in a student’s development.  The Kew High Transition program aims to support all students to:

·         Experience positive relationships

·         Be genuinely engaged in learning and

·         Develop high self esteem

The Kew Welcomes You program also aims:

·         To aid the transition of the year 7         students from Primary school to Secondary school

·         To assist with the integration of a large group of students from different school backgrounds

·         To enable students, peer support leaders and teachers to get to know each other better

·         To support student social and academic development

·         To support student well-being and

·         Provide targeted early interventions and support

As part of the transition to secondary school all year 7 students were involved in the Kew Welcomes You program on Friday 20 February. Students were split into two groups. The groups were involved in Life Be in It activities for half the day and Q Minute It to Win It activities for the remainder of the day including a session with their Peer Support leaders.

The students participated enthusiastically, had a lot of fun and were able to get to know other students in their year level and their teachers.  All students enjoyed a hot dog lunch with their peers and teachers.

A special thanks to all staff involved as these programs are important in ensuring that year 7 students make a successful transition.  Overall, year 7 students have settled in very well at Kew.
