BOROONDARA BEARS ARE THE BEST

House Swimming Carnival

In lane one we had Boroondara, in lane two we had Cotham, in lane three we had Barker and in lane four we had Wilsmere. Take your marks, get set, beep. And the 2015 Kew High School Swimming Carnival was underway.

On February 9 we had our first house sports competition for the year, and what an event it was, with everyone joining in from all year levels and even the weather joining in to make the day one to remember. From the moment people walked in the front gates, to competing and being cheered by the amazing house captains, to the walk back to school, everyone was in high spirits and showing brilliant house spirit in order to make sure that they did all they could for their house to win.

Everything good always has a happy ending and for the members of the Boroondara House this came with another emphatic win at the Swimming Sports. The cheers, the hustle and the bustle, the furious racing all ended on a very positive note and yet again Kew High School's Swimming Carnival was an event which started the year in fine fashion (not including the fashion of many students who dressed up) and it will be the benchmark for all events to come this year.

A Fun Activity

The swimming sports were a fun activity for all.  They had some great events, like the 25 metre race. I liked the day even though it was boiling hot.

I entered the 25 freestyle sprint.  I felt tired, but proud because I came fifth and I earned a point for Cotham.

Year 12 at the Swimming Carnival

The 2015 House Swimming Carnival was a huge success. It was especially a great day for Year 12s who sported fabulous costumes for their last swimming carnival! It was obvious that much effort was put in, to make all the awesome, creative, and sometimes hilarious outfits. Not only was the dress up parade a highlight of the day, but the novelty race (completed on inflatable boats and pool toys) was lots of fun for all participants and spectators.

While these events were an enjoyable tradition, the graduating class of 2015 brought a new event to the day- a flash mob! Sarah O’Malley and Amy Hogan rallied  the Year 12s beforehand, and had a lot of patience and goodwill in teaching more than 100 of us the choreography for the surprise dance. Although some moves were forgotten on the day, it was overall a great success. The carnival ended with a splash when many of us jumped into the pool together. It was sad to begin doing everything for the last time, but I’m sure we’ll all remember the day, long after we leave.
