YEAR 7 CAMP

A Successful Camp

From February 23 to 27, Year 7s went to Camp Charnwood. 7A to 7D were there on Monday to Wednesday and 7E to 7H on Wednesday to Friday. This camp was located three hours out of Melbourne in the Strathbogie Ranges and featured Abseiling, Mountain Biking, Canoeing, Rafting, Hiking and a night under canvas. When we arrived at Charnwood, the air fresh from the morning dew, we were split into our groups, then the adventures began.

On the first night, half of the groups went on a hike to the camp site kilometres away while the others enjoyed a night in a cabin. The cabins were spacious and everyone had a great night’s sleep before the day of activities. Mountain Biking involved a long loop up into the forest, then all the way down. It was tiring to climb all the way up, but the speed down the hill was worth it. We had a chance to canoe on Charnwood’s very own lake and after that we constructed our own rafts and sped them round the lake, before finally battling each other on the wires.

In the afternoon, the cabin group packed their daypacks and set off on a hike to the camp site. Some of the hills were so steep  you needed to hold a rope to make it down safely! Dinner at the camp site was delicious, pizza and chocolate bananas for dessert. Then, all the groups got together to play big games in the dark! In the morning, the Abseiling was our last activity so we put on our harnesses and helmets and got ready to abseil. The rocks were 15 metres high, but it felt a lot higher on top. Almost everyone did it and had a blast, whether it was their first time or they had done it before.

At the end, the whole year level came together for a photo and some fun games provided by the VCE Outdoor Recreation  students. We thanked the teachers, the instructors and our Year 11s. Then it was back to Melbourne after a successful camp.
