ACMI

 Students Visit ACMI

Part of the Year 9 English course is to write a comparative piece based on a film, a novel and lyrics. The set film was The Sapphires. We went to ACMI to watch The Sapphires and also listened to a presentation about the movie by Dr Susan Bye, who explained the concepts and themes of the film. The whole of Year 9 went on the excursion and we had lunch in the city. We learnt a lot about the writers and the marketing of the film, along with the history involved. She also explained the movie in depth, focusing on the themes, especially identity and belonging. “There were new ideas that were great to hear,” a student commented, and added, “... it was a fun experience.”

EAL visit ACMI

As part of the Year 12 English as an Additional Language (EAL) course, students are studying the film Mabo. All students participated in an excursion to the ACMI theatre in the city, to watch the film on the big screen and then listen to a highly informative lecture about the characters, themes and visual elements. After lunch in the city, students viewed exhibitions in the Australian Mediatheque which  helped them to have a better understanding of the development of indigenous film.
