SCIENCE FORUM
National Youth Science Forum
Four students from Kew High School were selected to attend the National Youth Science Forum (NYSF) over the summer holidays. These students were Steven Zhang, Lily Xia, Yaan-Kit Ng and Kolya Haisken-De New. Only about 360 students are selected Australia wide. The NYSF offers a range of programs across Australia to develop the exposure of Year 12 science students to study, research and future employment opportunities.
These are the students' thoughts on their experience:
The forum presented an opportunity to really explore different careers in science. In doing so, I was exposed to a whole range of new occupations that I had never thought about. Being surrounded by like-minded individuals presented wonderful opportunities for the application of team-work and communication skills. Through the forum we also got to meet leading scientists and researchers from around the world and from different areas of science. Overall, the forum provided wonderful insight into the world of science behind the labs and white coats, presenting an amazing opportunity for any individual with an interest in science.
Lily Xia
Year 12
NYSF was hands down the greatest experience of my life. Not only did it appeal to my scientific interest, it also developed me as a person. I got to witness the cutting edge of science from research to equipment. I made amazing friends due to the fact that everyone there was so like-minded and I was encouraged to explore and grow as a person. I've taken many things away, the most important being the fact that science is so broad and applicable to so many fields. Also, that you are among such amazing people. After being introduced to many areas in science, I now do have a clearer understanding of what I'd like to do in the future and what it takes to get there.

Year 12
The NYSF was a life changing experience. I was exposed to a variety of university and career options in science. Some of the lab visits and seminars were awe-inspiring. I met incredible people and formed friendships with extraordinary and like-minded students.
