Principal's Message

End of the Year Update

As we come to the end of this challenging school year, I would like to thank you for the incredible cooperation and support you have given to our students and our school community.

Over the weekend, principals received notice from Sydney Catholic Schools that the Omnicom COVID-19 variant was impacting schools across Sydney at an alarming rate.

Some of our local schools will be moving into remote learning from Friday. I have made the decision that Galilee will NOT be moving into remote learning. We will be open for learning and end of year activities until the last day of school, Wednesday 15 December.

There is an understandable concern that a potential exposure could impact Christmas with family and friends. I would like to assure you that we are working very hard to ensure our classrooms, playgrounds, and activities are COVID safe. We are a small school and we have been managing the cohort modelling well.

End of Year Event Changes

In light of this, we would like to limit the number of families attending the Year 6 Graduation and Thanksgiving Mass on Monday 13 December at 3:30 pm. We kindly ask that only close family members and siblings of the Year 6 students attend.

In addition, we ask that at the End of Year Awards on Tuesday 14 December only one parent, per child attend.

I share your disappointment and hope you can understand that this was a difficult decision to make, considering I am also leaving Galilee.

Let’s pray that the impact of COVID-19 in 2022 will be minimised with the introduction of vaccines for children available from mid-January at vaccination hubs and medical centres.

Keeping our Kids Safe online

QUICK TIPS FOR PARENTS

  • Educate yourself: Check out different sites, games, and apps that your child is accessing for yourself. The more familiar you are with them, the easier it is for you to talk to your children. Check privacy settings and recommended age restrictions.
  • Talk with your children: have conversations with them about the importance of safety online and show them how to implement this. You can do this without frightening them. For example, let them know that you have been hearing about online safety and ask what they think the risks are and what they do to keep safe.
  • Teach your children to think about online behaviour: How much should they be sharing online and what happens to information once posted or shared? Talk about respectful interactions and responsible behaviour, and encourage them to critically think about what they read and see online (remind them that not everything they read may be true, what they share will always be there, and that not everyone is who they say they are online).
  • Come up with a plan around safety: Talk about ways to not only stay safe but also how to respond to anything that happens that may concern them. Let them know they can talk to you or another adult they can trust. Encourage them to be proactive about keeping their online space safe and teach them how to report online behaviours.

Deepest Sympathy

We offer our thoughts and prayers to the Bowers Family, who lost their grandfather, Fred Bowers this week. We extend our deepest sympathy to the family at this sad and difficult time.

May eternal rest grant unto him O Lord and may perpetual light shine upon him.

May he rest in peace.

Regards
