Are you having career conversations?

A key indicator from the OECD Career Readiness Project indicates that career conversations are linked to better adult employment outcomes. Having conversations about careers with family, friends and subject teachers an important part of future career preparation.

Career conversations can provide a young person access to support through their transitions, a means of securing new and useful career-related information and a prompt for confirming or challenging career thinking.

The study showed that people who do not participate in career conversations as teenagers are more likely to be uncertain about their job future, are less ambitious in plans for the future, can struggle to see the connection between what they do at school and their future and plan on undertaking education which is insufficient to achieve their job goals.
