Celebrating the work of our final year students

In Unit 4 our Year 12 VCD students develop their designs through the design process and create two design presentations that meet the requirements of their individual design brief. The remote learning arrangements of 2021 were not ideal for a folio subject like VCD, and it was a challenging year for VCD students and teachers. However, most students performed above expectations and considering their limited access to resources and guidance, we’re sure you will be impressed with their achievements.

Alia Daniels

I chose to design a retreat for young people coming out of psychiatric hospitals for my vcd project. The retreat would assist these young people in the process of transitioning back into living at home as the gap from a very a psychiatric ward to home seems huge. The retreat is a place where the young people would gain independence, spend time in nature and do fun activities. I loved designing the retreat through experimenting with the organic forms, building the model and interviewing an architect and psychologist to learn what I could do to make the building the most positive experience those young people.

Leah Carr

My product is designed for youth struggling with anxiety. It has the function of a smartwatch with applications that help with organization skills, as well as being a portable aroma diffuser. Essential oils of the user’s choice can be applied directly to the wooden surface on the outside of the device that holds the scent for up to 24 hours. The band of the watch is made of plastic collected from the ocean as this is comfortable to wear and sustainable. I also created packaging for the device that has a circular logo. The packaging is made from mushrooms that grow into the shape of the design as this is a sustainable option.

Julian Lynch

I have designed the exterior of a track car. The design features a modern aesthetic comprised of aerodynamic forms, with a focus on creating a balance between form and function as that would be appealing to my target audience. The body would be made of carbon fibre due to the material’s light weight, high level of rigidity, and versatility of the shapes in which you can make with it. To go along with the car, I created a brand identity, which includes a logo and colour palette that corresponds to its aesthetic.

We currently have a display of all our final year students' work in C block. If you are interested in studying VCD in future, please come and check out the excellent designs.
