STAGE 3 PUBLIC SPEAKING COMPETITION

On Thursday morning, Week 4, Year 5 and 6 battled it off in the Stage 3 Public Speaking Final. Year 6 had four finalists including Molly O’Mullane, Ivy Lloyd, Toby Errington and Neeve Sheridan. Coincidentally all the Year Sixes were pulled out of the hat first by Mrs Elliott. Toby Errington kicked us off with a speech on Dreadful Dentists with funny flossing jokes and the torture tools that dentists use. Molly O’Mullane then swooped in with monsterous magpies and explained how crazy Australians go the extra mile to scare off magpies by putting ice cream containers with googly eyes on their heads and told us loud and clear she thinks that magpies are attacking us because of how ridiculous we look. Next up was Ivy Lloyd (The Golden Child) and yes, you guessed it her topic was being the youngest child. She wrapped up at 2 minutes 30 to set up the foot spa so when her mum got home she could watch The Block. The fourth out of the 7 contestants, Neeve Sheridan was last in the Year 6 speeches. She started with brutal brussel sprouts and how to avoid them and told us the gas they produce after being eaten is DISGUSTING! It was the most gruesome speech ever.

Molly Stokeld, Audrey Bird and Lyla Davidson represented Year 5. ‘SPLASH!’ As Audrey Bird dived into her speech with a tip toe and cannonball talking about how Aussies enter the pool. She had a joke for us too. “Which way do chickens swim? Cluckwise.” Thanks Audrey we’ll be sure to use that joke on our siblings. Lyla Davidson then took us back to a place we didn't want to go. Yep and her topic ‘COUGH, COUGH’ coronavirus. There have been stories of how covid occurred but Lyla informed us it was from an animal used in chinese medicines that had eaten bat food. But luckily we now have more toilet paper on our shelves than ever. Lucky last Molly Stokeld bounced us into her passion of lawn bowls, just kidding it was obviously basketball. She talked about how basketball was invented and why we should think about signing up. It sure was a slam dunk of a finish.

Finally in the last daring moments of the morning Mrs Lynne Prisk, Mrs Kirrilee Ringland and Mrs Jen Berkeley had to make a tough decision on who was declared the winner. Eventually they came to a decision… “In third place Lyla Davidson with her cracking covid facts. “In second place Molly Stokeld, and finally the winner is …” Our ears were wide open listening to Mrs Berkeley who then declared the winner as Molly O’Mullane. The St Nicholas School Stage 3 Public Speaking plaque will be engraved with her name. We would like to congratulate all of the contestants. The judges said it was tough to choose a winner. Thank you judges and audience for listening to the 2022 Stage 3 Public Speaking Finalists.

YEAR 5 LEADERSHIP DAY

2022 Year 5 Leadership Day, wow what an amazing experience. From the start of the day to the end, it was so much fun. We learnt ways to be a leader, we learnt what is a leader's responsibility as well as fun games along the way.

We had some words of wisdom from Allan Guan, who told us that leaders try to include everybody. If you're a leader you can’t give up, you have to keep trying. He also told us we need to prevent conflict and get help when needed. Our words of wisdom from Millie Blanch were that you need to take action to be a leader, don’t talk the talk, walk the walk. You can be a leader from any age, Millie was someone who displayed the qualities of a leader from a young age.

We were given a letter from Kevin Anderson, who is a member of the Legislative Assembly of New South Wales and Mr Clery gave an address via video as he is away on the Year 6 excursion. Throughout our day we experienced many challenges and victories. We had a chocolate mud cake that the office ladies had organised for us. In fact group 6 took out first place in our random question trivia. We were asked multiple questions on different subjects one of which includes: Who won the 2020 NRL Grand final? A delicious pizza lunch out the front of the school then followed. After the second break we planned and ran a special sport activity afternoon for all of Year 4. We had a blast.

On behalf of the whole of Year 5, we give a huge thank you to all the people who participated in our leadership day, including our office staff, the Year 5 teachers, our special guests and Year 4 for participating in our games afternoon.

We had an amazing leadership day, this was definitely one to remember. We look forward to representing St Nicholas as the school leader of 2023.

TRANSITIONING TO TECHONE

Over the next few weeks St Nicholas School will be transitioning to a new finance system. These changes will include new ways in which you can make payments to the school, this will include Bpay, CompassPay and EFTPOS. Current direct debit options will still be available for a limited time. Our current bank account will be closing and therefore we will be asking parents to make payments to the school via one of these new functionalities.

Soon you will receive your new fee statement and included on the statement will be your new Bpay payment details. You can easily set up regular payments from your bank account to the new school bpay account.

You can also make payments for School Fees and Events via the Compass App. Please contact the School if you require assistance with the Compass App.

Our school will also have EFTPOS facilities available. This means you will be able to make payments or purchases over the counter at the school rather than relying on cash.

BUS TRAVEL APPS

As you know over the last few weeks there have been a number of times where buses have been late or diverted due to flooding. Understandably this causes a lot of concern for parents about the time buses will arrive at their child’s stop, and could in some cases put students at risk where parents may drop them off at the bus stop, not realising there is a delay.

Over the last few months Tamworth Buslines have been working with Transport for NSW to provide a data feed which allows parents to track buses live utilising any travel apps, we like either Any Trip, Next There or Transport Me. Please see further information below.

SCHOOL FEES

Thank you to our St Nicholas School community for your continuing payments of school fees. With many families in difficult times, we are very fortunate that everyone makes the greatest effort to pay school fees which supports the education of all students. Thank you.

YEAR 6 YEAR BOOK

Please note that the Year 6 Year Book is currently being compiled. We have photographs including students other than Year 6 (eg. buddies) throughout the Year Book and we need to make all aware that if you do not wish to have your child's photograph appear in the Year Book then you must notify the school as soon as possible.
