Catholic Identity

As we come to the end of October, the Month of the Rosary in our liturgical calendar, we look to the month of November.

In the Catholic tradition, November is traditionally a month of remembrance of those who have died.  The month begins with the Solemnity of All Saints on 1 November and the Commemoration of the All the Faithful Departed (All Souls’ Day), on 2 November.

Tuesday November 1st, is All Saints Day. This day is dedicated to remembering those who have been canonised saints by the Church. Some discussions you might like to have as a family - Who are some saints you know? St. Mel, St. Patrick, Mary Mackillop, Mother Teresa. People are sometimes named after saints, do you know anyone? What qualities might a saint possess - faith and belief in God, love for fellow people and standing up for those who have no voice, compassion. How can we learn from saints, how can we follow in their footsteps? Who do we know that shows the qualities of a saint in your own life life?

All Souls Day at St. Mel's Church ~ NOVEMBER Is a month to remember our loved ones, especially those who have died from our Parish over this past year. This year for all the Sunday Masses in November, and in the parish bulletin each week, we will have the names displayed of those who you wish to remember. Please send through these names to the Parish office via email or phone, or fill in a yellow November Masses envelope (located in the Narthex next to the tap n go machines at the entrance to the Church), and place in the collection plate or drop in the slot next to the office door.

Flood Resources to support Families:

Some timely advice and a helpful resource for parents and carers as our community navigates its way through this major flooding event. The impact of such an event can take a heavy toll on everyone involved. Please remember the well-being of our little ones and young people:

"Try to minimise the distressing images or verbal media reports children are exposed to. If children are watching or listening to reports of emergencies, be with them to help them make sense of the situation – they need your perspective, guidance and reassurance." - Australian Red Cross

NEW - CHRISTIAN  INITIATION Into our Catholic Life here at St Mels Parish -

Into our Catholic Life here at St Mel’s Parish. I have recently received a strong expression of interest from a mother of children who herself wants to make a journey to Easter for 2023. If anyone knows of another who is seeking an understanding of our Catholic Faith an INQUIRY EVENING will take place on Sunday evening, October 30th, 2022 at 7pm in the Gathering Room at the Parish House. There will be another Inquiry evening on Sunday, November 6th at 7pm. Here’s hoping we may have some potential candidates for Easter next year.
