Principal's Message

Mr Forrest

Out & About

A huge thanks to our staff members and students who have been making the most of the fine weather lately. We just wish it would stay around longer!!!  There have been some great events held recently which have included the P-2 Overnight Camp and local excursion, a visiting ALPHA Show the 'Little Mermaid' for all primary students, Years 7 & 8 visit to Kyabram Fauna Park and the Year 12 Graduation Dinner.  Great to hear ex student Louis Holt tell us about his journey after leaving school and his fond memories of his time attending Wedderburn College.  He shared his 'ups and downs' in his work place and the highs of being ranked the 2nd best mechanic at ISUZU Australia in a challenge last year.   His simple message of 'keep on working hard no matter what you do' was an inspiration to our students.

On behalf of our students and families I must give all staff a huge 'pat on the back' and a massive thank you for seeing the benefit in all these extra activities for our students. Thanks for giving up your personal time to attend and organise them.  Once again we celebrate the success in delivering camps across the school.

Welcome Mr Iser

Today we welcomed Mr Alexander Iser as a new Leading Teacher at Wedderburn College. Mr Iser is pictured above participating in a new staff Induction process with Leading Teacher, Mrs Lea Humphrey.  Mr Iser has been working with the DET as part of a school improvement team supporting multiple schools.  He has had plenty of experience in some much larger secondary colleges especially in VCE English and Humanities across Bendigo and Melbourne.  Mr Iser will be a Leading Teacher of Teaching and Learning, working part-time in the classroom including mentoring, training and supporting

staff/students. He will be also working with Primary Leading teacher Miss Amanda Campbell to lead curriculum development and school improvement especially in Literacy across the whole P-12 college.

I look forward to sharing staffing updates and curriculum developments over the coming weeks with parents.   We are aiming to share some major curriculum developments with Year 9 parents on Tuesday 6th of December, regarding some fantastic new options for year 9 students in 2023. More details to follow when we have everything finalised.

School Camps Tomorrow

A reminder to parents and students to have a good sleep tonight ahead of the Year 3/4 and Year 11 Camps at Anglesea and Torquay.   With the weather warming up both camps will certainly enjoy the coast, many for the first time.   I look forward to seeing all the students have fun.

Remembrance Day Service 2022

On Friday 11th of November at 11 a.m. our Year 5/6 and senior students  participated in a Remembrance Day service at the Wedderburn - Korong Vale RSL from 10:30 a.m.

Wedderburn- Korong Vale RSL President Roger Patterson was very happy with  having our students involved.   Well done to the students who participated in the service and to the students who attended, surviving the mosquitoes and humid conditions.  We look forward to working with the Wedderburn- Korong Vale RSL into the future.

Colouring Competition Winners

Congratulations to all Remembrance Day Winners who all received special awards from the College Cafe.  All primary students  had the opportunity to complete a 'Pause, Stand and Reflect' Colouring Competition with the winners pictured above. The RSL judges had a difficult time selecting all the winners. A special mention to Prep student Annalise Tate who took out the overall best prize.

Parent Payment & Book Lists (Repeat)

In the coming fortnight all families will receive very detailed information on Parent Payments-Voluntary Contributions, Resources and Booklists for 2023. Please remember major changes occurred this year for Wedderburn College students in 2022. The following changes will be in place again for 2023:

  • Students from Foundation – Year 6 will have stationary purchased for them by the classroom teacher.  These resources  will be kept at school and distributed by the homeroom teacher.
  • Students from Year 7 - Year 10 will be provided with a basic individual stationary pack and distributed at the start of the year.
  • Students in Year 11 and Year 12 have the option to request a basic stationary pack or purchase their own supplies.
  • Senior textbooks can be borrowed from class sets or students can choose to purchase secondhand or new books if they want to highlight or write notes in their own personalised copy.
  • The provided resources will be paid for as part of Parent Payment-Voluntary Contributions, parents will not have to deal directly with Wattle Office Supplies.
  • The Parent Payment-Voluntary Contributions will be clearly explained in our 2023 Information Flyer.
  • Students and families will be required to pay for all optional camps, excursions and the school magazine separately.
