From the Acting Headmaster

As the end of the year flies toward us, there is no slowing down in the activities and events at Blue Mountains Grammar School.

Today I received a reminder that I leave for our family holiday in 29 days. If you are like me, you wonder where time has gone.

With all that is happening, I want to acknowledge our team. As in any school, our people are our most incredible resource. As the employer, BMGS will always be willing to invest in each of them to ensure they are equipped to reach their personal, professional and God-given potential. As parents, our staff are critical to your child's place, enjoyment and progress in learning. I invite you to feel free to encourage them in their work. Together we can commit to growing our community as one that increases the capacity of everyone. We must also ensure that we grow a well-articulated community of learners among our staff who will secure the momentum and trajectory of our schools intent.

We are a school that values learning and responds by innovating to ensure that students are not just simply receivers of knowledge but are producers of it. As we plan for next year and beyond, we will need to demonstrate a willingness to confront the challenges and opportunities of the 21st-century educational landscape with innovative models of learning that serve students into their future, providing a fantastic platform for communicating hope for the future.

I am confident our future is a bright one.

Remembrance Day

Today I had the opportunity, along with our Captains and other students, to join others from our area at the cenotaph in Wentworth Falls to commemorate Remembrance Day.

I was so proud of our students today.

Remembrance Day is an integral part of our history and one I felt deeply when I walked the Western Front battlefields in 2018. As noted on the Australian War Memorial website, on the 11th of November 1918, the guns of the Western Front fell silent after four years of continuous warfare. With their armies retreating and close to collapse, German leaders signed an Armistice, ending the First World War. What a beautiful day that must have been!

As a mark of respect to those who have died and suffered, our school paused at 11:00am to observe one minute's silence and remember those who died or suffered in all wars and armed conflicts. Can I encourage you as a family to take a minute's silence together today?

Lest we forget.
