Technology

Food, Textiles, Agriculture, Health and VCAL

As we move through a very short and exciting term, it has been wonderful to see students achieving success across the Technology, VCAL and Health learning areas.

Foundation and Year One Technology Textiles

In Textiles the Foundation and Year One students hands have been doing great work in Textiles. Students have been learning to use a needle and wool to create their very own stitching pattern. Students have learnt that if your stitches are too big, it will not be very strong, and if you pull your wool too much it will scrunch your fabric together. Students are going to attach some fabric to their work next week. A fantastic effort by the Foundation and Year One students.

Year 2/3 Food Technology

In Week 3, the Year 2/3 students enjoyed doing a blindfold taste test of a variety of different foods and to then evaluate the sensory properties of the food they tasted. Students were highly engaged in this learning activity and were able to use a variety of sensory words to describe the food they were tasting. In week 4 students were excited to be producing a highly requested food. Students learnt how to knead their pizza dough and then chose a topping of their choice.

Café Culture Food Technology – Elective

Students have been busy preparing cupcakes for our annual CF day, Golden Syrup Dumplings, and this week students were introduced to Bistro Morgan and his business and made Cinnamon Doughnuts. Students will have the opportunity to design and produce a new doughnut for Bistro Morgan’s Café.

Students were fortunate enough to have Paul Leonard share his expertise on waiting. Students were challenged with balancing marbles on more than one plate, and then serving customers in a simulation activity. Thank you Paul for sharing this first hand front of house experience for students.

Year 8 Technology Textiles

Students have been making wonderful progress over the last week making their sock protectors. They are all persevering when challenged and achieving success. The completed sock protectors are colourful and are looking amazing. Students now have the opportunity create a swing tag for their sock protectors. It has been wonderful to see such wonderful progress in Textiles, well done Year 8’s!

Primary Agriculture

Students have been investigating ways we can be more sustainable at Edenhope College, focusing on looking at ways that we use food waste at Edenhope College. Foundation and Year one students have been looking at different types of seeds and what they need to grow.

Year 8 Health

After participating in role plays and class discussions of the strengths and qualities of people they admire and respect, students have been analysing their own character strengths.

VCAL

Thank you to all the VCAL students who planned, prepared and delivered the Athletics Day canteen for the combined schools Athletics Day. You ALL did an amazing job!

Ag Room

With the College’s increased emphasis on agriculture, we determined late last year that we need to rejuvenate the old Agriculture classroom so that our students have a functional and working classroom near the farm.  Our 2021 VCAL class developed an integrated project, cleaning, prepping and painting the Ag Room to restore it to being a functional classroom. Initially they emptied, cleaned, removed flooring, cleaned again and then measured it up to ascertain the volume of paint required to freshen it up. Earlier this year they completed their project leaving us with a fresh and bright room, just needing some flooring and new blinds which we have recently had installed and the room is ready to go. Much thanks must go to the VCAL team for making this project happen.
