We are so excited to be offering Visual Art throughout the whole year in 2023! We will be creating magnificent masterpieces using pastels, paint, collage, clay, textiles, and much, much more!
Term One Focus
Our focus for the beginning of Term One is mark-making with pastels. Students from Prep to 6 have been experimenting with manipulating pastels to create a range of marks. Check out what they have done below:
Welcome to the STEM Lab!
We are spending this term exploring the STEM lab and learning to be curious, asking questions and making predictions. We have already answered the question "Do heart-shaped bubble wands make heart-shaped bubbles?" and have engineered houses for our toys.
The buzzword for this Term is processes. In Digital Technologies my aim is to build independence and confidence in students and their abilities to use iPads. We are focusing on basic digital functions like accessing the internet, using search engines, copying/pasting images and, most importantly, logging in and out of essential classroom apps like Seesaw. Pictured below are some of the Senior school students locating images to use on their mood boards.
We have hit the ground running in P.E in Term One at Wollert! This term the Preps and Junior Community have been focussing on running and playing lots of fun games that help them improve their technique. The Middle and Senior Communities have been focussing on Cricket, where catching and throwing have been a focal point. The Senior Community will also be engaging in a Cricket Victoria clinic for the first part of the term.
Interschool Sport
The Senior Community will be participating in Interschool Sport this year and from Term Two will be able to compete against other schools in various sports. This term we are getting them used to playing in different teams with a focus on sportsmanship and playing by the rules. The sports we have started with are Cricket, Basketball and Soccer, these will change again during the term.
What a wonderful start we have had to the year! The students have gotten straight into cooking. They have been able to harvest fresh produce from our garden to make some much enjoyed zucchini slice and fresh garden salad with dressing. The focus for this term is building the students confidence to be more independent in the kitchen. This will include building their knowledge and understand of fractions and the correct use of measuring cups, jugs and spoons. They will also build their understanding of the structure and components of a recipe so they are able to follow it to cook some delicious foods. Another area of independence we will be working on includes the cleaning and packing up of our lessons. Students will rotate through different roles and responsibilities each sessions, including washing and drying dishes, wiping down tables and benches and setting the table for eating.
Sheree and Sam are so excited to be teaching Wollert Primary Performing Arts for the whole year in 2023. Sam is teaching our Junior to Senior classes and Sheree is teaching Prep. Each term will have a different focus including dance, drama and music. We are looking forward to seeing how creative you all can be!
Term One Focus:
Our focus for the beginning of term one is exploring drama through fairy tales, news reports and puppet shows. Here are some students engaging in some role-play!
Playscape is the Wollert Primary School brainchild subject specifically designed to support our Prep and Junior school students to further develop their social and emotional learning. Through play, students will learn about their self-identity, how their body works and how self-care can nurture their body and mind, as well as skills in teamwork, collaboration, resilience, and independence. Much research on behaviour, education and child development has highlighted the importance of extended play opportunities to foster these skills, especially in the early years and yet in our busy lives, often these opportunities are tech-laden or simply few and far between.
Rich play opportunities accommodate moments for students to negotiate, problem-solve, and practise life-skills in an enjoyable, safe environment.
Term One Focus:
Students have enjoyed exploring their self-identity through art, craft, construction, reading and imaginary play.
