Senior Report (5/6)
Wominjeka from the GUMNUT COMMUNITY - Jean, Tim, Tom & Annalisa
We have had a wonderful start to the year. We began by welcoming 2 new staff (Jean and Annalisa) who joined Tom and Tim, as well as many new students. We have really enjoyed getting to know each other and sharing a joke or two.
This year, each class has come up with a name and mascot
5/6A - Alphas, 5/6B - Billy Goats, 5/6C - Cocomelons, 5/6D - Dragons.
As we settle into the beginning of the year, we have established some routines to help us focus on learning and having fun.
Morning Process - Each day we begin with a Morning Circle. We check our Zones of Regulation, Acknowledgement of Country and go through our time table for the day.
Toilets - Lunch time, recess, before and after school are the times for going to the toilet. During class time it is only if absolutely necessary.
Lining up - Each class enters the Gumnut building from a different door. Your child will be able to show you where their class enters.
Classroom Learning - During the first two weeks, students worked with their teacher to come up with how learning should take place. What does it look like to Be Kind? How can we Be Joy at school?
Awesome Students - Within each classroom, we discussed what an Awesome Student does. This includes having a go, doing your best, asking questions and making mistakes! While we want to do our best, we also know that it is ok to make mistakes and learn from them.
Uniform - Our school uniform is the grey polo shirt or school dress. Students may choose to wear their red sports shirt only on PE days (Thursday) and Friday.
Leadership - we have begun discussing with our Senior students the idea that every single one of them is a role model and leader. Within our classrooms and across the school there are many responsibilities for them to undertake. They also demonstrate our Value of Be Brilliant when they take care of younger students.
Celebrations - Each week (sometimes more frequently!) we celebrate the achievements of students within our Senior Community. This could be large or small (eg. winning a sporting event outside school, learning something that required great persistence or helping another person quietly).
Keep an eye out for Junior Awards & Acknowledgments which will start in March.
