Introducing your MIDDLE Teachers

It brings us so much JOY to be teaching the fabulous grade 3/4's this year!
In our middle school community, we have been focussing on supporting our school readiness approach by setting ourselves up in the morning, focusing on table organisation and creating independent student routines.
We love seeing our BRILLIANT Middle school students taking pride in their learning space and following routines & expectations that support them in accessing strong Learning Production Behaviours more readily.
At Wollert Primary School, we have a universal saying and action called “Floor Friends.” A Floor Friends routine is used nearly every day to prompt our students to sit with their classmates and engage in conversations, reflections and new learning. This routine sparks thinking, questioning and active, engaged listening in an authentic way that deepens any learning experience, while developing key skills that will transfer into social skills required at all stages of our students' learning stories. Our Floor Friends routine also stretches our students out of their comfort zones, encouraging them to use the routine to scaffold conversations with all class members, especially class members they would not typically spend a great deal of time with. It is such a rich routine to develop so many necessary skills and build confidence in our learners.
Practising mindfulness is an important part of our weekly routine. In our Middle Team, students have been exploring different strategies to assist with self-regulation.
Our students have enjoyed the opportunity to explore different activities with their classmates as well as independently selecting a task or strategy that they feel suits them best. Some different mindful experiences we have explored include yoga, ASMR, Smiling Minds, puzzles, sensory play and mindful colouring.
Our students have been participating in a number of activities to assist in building positive relationships with peers and getting to know each other! Every learning story success is built around positive relationships. A new year brings new friends and connections. Routines that focus on building and maintaining strong connections benefit daily learning experiences.
Our brain is a muscle that we know needs care in order to support our daily learning. An important part of our daily routine at Wollert is being aware of our brain needs and 'feeding' it with nourishment that helps us work - we love to have our brain food!
It is wonderful seeing so many of our students bring in a variety of nutritious foods that are essential for their brain development. A filled water bottle and nutritious small bites of food that can be easily eaten without mess are ideal in our brain food routine. Small chopped vegetable and/or fruit bites (carrot, cucumber, apple, banana, berries, mandarin/orange segments etc) are appropriate to eat in a quick mess free manner and to support the brain fatigue caused when our thinking has been heavy.
We would like to acknowledge all of our Middle School students in returning 'school ready' and embracing the routines that are setting us all up for success. Wehave all been exploring, discussing, sharing and showing our school values in a brilliant way.
