Principal's News
Dear Parents and Friends
We are now officially half way through term 2! I cannot believe how quickly this term has gone. Our children have certainly been busy and our school is looking wonderful with all the childrens work up on display. If you haven’t come into the school for a while, please pop into your child/rens classrooms to have a look at the great work they are doing. At the moment we have butterflies hatching in the Foundation rooms and next week something really exciting is happening in the 1/2 area. The 3/4 classes are learning how to make and nourish plants in an “air garden”. The 5/6 area are looking at different environments and how we survive in different environments.
Principal Conference
At the time of writing I am with all the principals from the Southern Region at a Conference which has a focus on Care for our Children, Care for Others, Care for Self and Care for our World.
Child Safe Standards
As Catholic educators, we have a moral, mission driven and legal responsibility to uphold and actively promote the wellbeing and safety of every student entrusted in our care.
Our commitment to the protection of students is enabled in nurturing, respectful and safe communities where the uniqueness and sacred dignity of every young person is celebrated and they are able to flourish in their learning and development. This vision is driven by the gospel message of love, justice and abundance, beautifully reflected in the words of John. (Taken from the Catholic Education Website) As of the 1st July, 2022, the New Victorian Child Safe Standards will come into effect which will apply to schools and boarding schools. Eleven new Child Safe Standards will replace Victoria’s current seven standards and principles.

Child Safety Team
From these new standards we are creating a Child Safety Team here at St Brigid’s. The team will consist of Jodie, Belinda and myself. Our role is to create and maintain a child safe organisation. We will meet regularly to discuss any issues, concerns and provide support to any students in need.
Winter Months
As we would all be aware, as we head into Winter, sickness becomes more prevalent. All schools and casual teacher relief agencies are experiencing difficulty covering classrooms due to the number of teacher absences. At St Brigid’s we endeavour to replace teachers but this may not always be possible. As we move closer to Winter, there may be times where your child’s class will need to be split. We appreciate your understanding if this should occur.
Parent Helpers
Now that restrictions have eased and it doesn’t look like we will be returning to remote learning, it would be lovely to have our parents back in the classrooms as parent helpers. In order to be a parent helper you must sign a confidentiality agreement, have a working with childrens check and be triple vaccinated. Your child’s teacher will send out more information next week.
First Eucharist
Congratulations to Josh G who celebrated his first Eucharist at St Louis de Montfort's on Sunday. It looks like you had a lovely day.
Importance of Anaphylaxis Management
We provide a safe and healthy school environment that takes into consideration the needs of all students including those who may suffer from anaphylaxis (a severe and potentially life-threatening condition). You will be informed if there is a student in your child’s classroom with a severe allergy ie. nuts/eggs.
Eggs & Nuts:
In an effort to limit the chances of those children with allergies or who are anaphylactic being exposed – please avoid products with eggs or nuts. Please talk to your child about the importance of not sharing food with other students in their classroom; this message is reinforced by the classroom teachers.
We thank you in advance for your consideration in making the school environment safe for all students.
I hope you all have a great weekend.
Yours in partnership
Wendy Sullivan
