Important Work Experience Update
Please note: Raelee Balderston will be on leave from 12 May 2022 until 1 June 2022. The Work Experience Program will be on hold until week commencing 6 June 2022. In the meantime, if you are planning work experience from Week 7, 6 June 2022 with an employer you can collect a work experience package from the Library.
Students have recently benefited from work experience programs with Runway and Darling Dental. These programs have resulted in an apprenticeship and traineeship. We are grateful to these employers for their support of our students and their career pathways.
UNE Open Day 6 May 2022
Last Friday 35 Year 12 students accompanied by Mrs Barrett, Balderston and Smith attended this event. After breakfast at Austin Page College and tours of various colleges, students visited the campus to gain information on courses, participated in various campus tours and attended presentations on aspects of university life.
Year 10 Career Planning Presentation 10 May 2022
A presentation was given to all Year 10 students on the many choices facing them on courses, careers and pathways as well as the decisions to be made this year.
This will ultimately lead later this year to some students:
- selecting a pathway to the HSC by choosing subjects for Year 11 and 12
- selecting a pathway to leave school at the end of Year 10 to gain employment including apprenticeships and traineeship
All students in Year 10 will be receiving a copy of the 2022 Year 10 Careers Booklet during Week 3 or 4. It will have information about a range of topics which apply to all Year 10 students and show them where to find information that they need to make decisions. There is also a checklist to assist students with subject selection.
North West Regional Careers Expo 18 May 2022 (Students Only)
Students in Years 10 and 11 will be taken by bus to the TRECC on 18 May 2022. McCarthy students will be attending the second session which goes from 12 noon to 2pm.
Year 12 students are invited to attend on their own during this time period as the Expo falls on a Flexible Study day. There is an opportunity for them to travel with the College on the buses if they advise us that they would like to take up this option.
This event provides an opportunity for Year 10 students to meet a wide range of about 50 exhibitors from a large variety of industries:
- local employers
- universities
- private colleges
- TAFE
- accommodation colleges
All can provide valuable advice and information to help students to assist with planning career and course options when they leave school.

We use Google Classrooms to announce positions vacant, opportunities and advertise University notices daily. Information is shared to students from suitable job searches and from direct links and enquiries from local employers and Universities.

The Agricultural Expo will be an interactive way for students to immerse themselves in a diverse range of Agribusinesses and course providers to learn more about Career pathways and opportunities in the Agriculture Industry. McCarthy will be taking Year 9 and 10 Agriculture students and others interested in careers in agriculture.
