We all would know Leonardo Da Vinci for his Mona Lisa, but his scholarly skills were beyond compare. Using his intellect and creative talent Da Vinci made his mark in history. We decided to turn this motive and structure of passion plus success created by Da Vinci, into a foundation for our minds to empower as a group, working across ten disciplines in a race against time, not to forget: other schools.
After weeks of preparation and help from Mrs Kane, we were ready. After an amazing pep talk, we had an introductory session from the hosts. The intensity was amplifying. Everyone was tense. This was our moment! Ding! The papers were sent. Students cooperatively worked together to finish, submit and ace the competition. English, Science, Cartography, Ideation and Creative Producers was first. The leaders of each discipline typing, writing, working out and talking. Lots and lots of talking! This harmonious yet powerful environment/atmosphere letting everyone grow on each other’s strengths and weaknesses. The second section consisted of Maths, Code Breaking, Engineering, Art and poetry. This time, we had a perspective or idea on how to commence this. After doing the first part, the energy was flowing. The last section of the day was oriented around the discipline of Legacy. This was the golden moment, a chance to conclude this competition with a bang! This general knowledge quiz tested the team with our individual and group work. Legacy was aligned with the life of Da Vinci himself, the renaissance plus general knowledge.
The day was a breath-taking, innovative, and experimental substructure for growth. All our work was a combined gathering of fun and comprehension. Starting from 7:50am till 3:15pm we strived to make sure that we gave it our all. The team worked towards a collective goal and ambition as a team representing the one and only, Good News Lutheran College in the 2022 da Vinci Decathlon.

ICAS assessments are online assessments for students in Years 2 and above, designed to recognise and reward academic excellence. Students are assessed on their ability to apply classroom learning to new contexts, using higher-order thinking and problem-solving skills.
This year we will be running all assessments outside of school hours to reduce the impact of students being withdrawn from class. The assessments will be held on the following dates and times:
Should you wish for your child to participate, please refer to the Signmee note that you have received. You must register and pay for your child’s participation by 1 August. Please take the above dates and times into consideration prior to registering. More information will be provided closer to the assessment dates.
