Inter-school Debating Competition

On the evenings of Thursday 5 and Wednesday 18 May, students from Good News Lutheran College competed in Rounds 1 and 2 of the DAV Inter-school Debating competition, held at Geelong Grammar School, Corio. 

In preparation for these debates, students from Years 9-12 have prepared with diligent and admirable degrees of effort both at Lunchtime Debate Club sessions and in their own time.

GNLC Teams in these rounds faced mixed results, but considering that most students haven’t debated before, it is impressive to say that all loses were by very close margins (usually only 1 point), and all victories were by bigger margins. 

Our Year 9 and 10 teams deserve special commendation, for quickly adapting to an online format for the Round 2 debate, sprung on everyone with only a few hours’ notice. 

We have three rounds to go in the regular season, the next being Round 3 on 2 June. Interested students (especially Year 11s), are encouraged to come and see Mr West as soon as possible.
