Labour Market Information

Labour market information allows students to understand the changing world of work and identify big picture trends shaping the workforce. The myfuture website assists young people in understanding pathways into and between jobs, the jobs and skills currently in demand; likely pay and conditions in certain industries; characteristics of the workforce and future employment growth prospects.

Labour market trends can change quickly, and it can be difficult to predict what the jobs market will look like in the future. Current big picture trends from the Australian Bureau of Statistics Labour Force Survey indicate an ongoing shift towards industries, such as the care sector. In addition, the need for education and training beyond school is growing, and more than nine out of ten new jobs by November 2025 will demand post-school qualifications. Finally, there is strong growth in employment across STEM occupations. Students need labour market information such as workforce trends, skill requirements and job vacancies to help them make informed education, training or career decisions.
