Secondary Sports

QGSSSA Cross Country

Unfortunately, the QGSSSA Cross Country Championships at Rivermount College, Yatala scheduled for this Saturday have had to be cancelled due to this current weather event. The Executive Officer will now attempt to find an alternative venue and date for these championships as Rivermount College is unable to find another time suitable. Updates will be released via the College app as they come through and full details will hopefully be available next week in the Collective.

Our Cross Country squad have been training hard and were absolutely ready to compete this weekend, I am sure there will be a lot of disappointed students and coaches. The College sports department will put together an alternative training schedule so that our girls running fitness remains high for the rescheduled event. Details will be released via the College app.

Student spectators

As is traditional, each year level is assigned a Big 3 QGSSSA championship to attend, for year 11 it is the Cross-country championships.  All year 11 students who are not part of the team are expected to attend and cheer and support our girls, along with any other students who wish to attend. Full details of the rescheduled event for spectators will also be released in the coming week as it comes to hand.

Autumn Fixtures – Football and Touch

This week both Touch and Football fixtures have been cancelled due to the rain and its impact on the playing fields. As the majority of games across all QG schools have been impacted, round 7 will be labelled as an abandoned round, thus points will be shared amongst the teams.

Next week is another busy week with rescheduled games on top of the scheduled away round against Sommerville House. Please see the College app for the full schedule. Can we please ask that students continue to commit to training and games for the Autumn fixtures over the trials and pre-season training for winter fixtures. Students will not be disadvantaged by doing so, please email the sports department that you are missing trials due to your current sports commitments.

Winter Sports – Pre-season Training

Trials and pre-season training commenced this week for Tennis, Netball and Volleyball.  Hockey will be commencing in Week 5. The training schedule for Week 5 will be available on the College app from Friday lunch, with the full schedule for the remainder of the term coming out next week. Any girls who still want to sign-up should contact the Sports Department asap. We ask that all students who sign-up and are selected for a team ensure that they can commit to the requirements of the sport. For the College to be competitive, we need ALL girls to attend all training sessions and games.
