Dear Brunswick Nth West Community,

I hope this note finds you all well. As school is beginning to transition back onsite, here is some important information regarding Sprout operations. We too will be returning but with some changes. Here is an outline for the rest of this term, please keep in mind that this is a learning curve for us also and as such will be taking this one step at a time!

  • Due to social distancing rules, there will be no morning cafe (sorry)
  • Recess (usual fare of popcorn, muffins, biscuits, hot chocolate) and lunch will be available for students, sandwiches and toasties only for the first 3 weeks, then we will offer pizza one day per week for the final 2 weeks of term. I will advise which day that will be closer to the time.
  • Money is a tricky one. We are endeavouring to set up an online ordering system but in the meantime it will need to be cash (coins only). We have set up a sanitising station at the canteen window. After children have asked for what they would like and handed over their coin(s), we will be asking them to use the santiser before receiving their food. The coins will be placed in a small bucket with disinfectant. We will be wearing gloves to serve. This is a temporary situation until we can come up with a suitable alternative.
  • Similarly lunch orders will be cash preferred. If this presents a problem, please contact me at sproutcanteen@gmail.com or give me a call on the school phone number and we can work something out. Please be patient, we are working towards a solution!
  • Take home meals will continue on Mondays only. These will need to be ordered and you will be met at the gate closest to Sprout (Shetland Ave) with your meal and the eftpos machine.

I know this is all a bit cumbersome, but please be assured that we are trying to address the obstacles and continue to offer Sprout services, albeit in a limited capacity at present.

Thank you for continuing to support Sprout through this time. I will keep you up to date with any changes and developments as the realities for Sprout come into clearer focus. As always, please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions, concerns, or strokes of genius!

Take care everyone, I look forward to seeing you soon.

Kris

 26th of May – Sorry Day with Uncle Trevor

“On our pathway towards reconciliation, Sorry Day on 26 May is an important moment to remember the past policies of forced child removal. Here, we reflect on the sad and painful history of the Stolen Generations and recognise moments of resilience, healing and the power of saying Sorry.”

To remember Sorry Day we have prepared a video Incursion with Uncle Trevor.!

A link of the virtual incursion will be posted to everyone on the 26th of May. Don’t miss it!

Returning to school and OSHC

To support the transition back to school and OSHC in a healthy and safe environment, we are going to have few changes to our operations:

1. Due to staggered school start and finish times, OSHC is working with the School to accommodate the adjusted arrangements for drop off and pick up.

This means that OSHC educators will walk the students to/from their classroom and make sure that students are supervised all the times

2. Restrictions on access to the school site for anyone other than immediate school staff and students: Please you use the MPR glass door (where usually the assembly or music lesson occurs). An OSHC educator will be in the MPR to greet and sight the parents/carers. Parents/carers will not sign in/out the children at this stage.

Please a reminder that parents and carers must walk the students to the glass door. Under no circumstances students are to walk by themselves into the program. This is against the law.

3. Students will be reminded and expected to wash their hands/ use sanitiser when:

- every time they enter the building (including outdoor play);

- before and after eating;

- between activities.

I would strongly encourage to discuss the hand washing with your children, especially the young ones.

Reminders:

1. Sick Students

If a child is unwell or present any cold/flu symptoms they must stay home. If we observe that a child is unwell, OSHC will contact the parents/carers to collect their children according to our Illness Policy. You will find a copy of our policy on the school website:

https://www.brunswicknwps.vic.edu.au/uploaded_files/media/oshc_2019_parent_handbook_ver_2.3_draft.pdf

2. Confirm your bookings

From the program:

Here at OSHC our students have been very busy!

Our Middles and Seniors have been working on lots of funny short-film projects! Today, we are going to share their first one “The horrors of the Chicken soup!” Watch out zombies!

We have also received a  wonderful video clip from one of our families, the Caligaris! Maya is going to show us how to make a very simple and delicious pasta sauce from her home kitchen. Thank you Rosy for sharing the video with us!

As we are going to get ready to go back slowly to full operation (or may be half!) in the next weeks, we have invited some of our fantastic casual educators back to the program. Last week, we had our beautiful Brianna in her science club: how colour can influence your taste and of course we made a video!

This week we will have our wonderful Kathrine and next week Mika. So nice to catch up with our casual team!

As the students are returning, we expect that we will be a little bit busier catching up with them and we may not be able to provide as many videos as before.

Below are the list of the our latest video clips: enjoy while you can!
