Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden

It’s official! Spring has sprung in the kitchen garden with the fruit trees in full bloom. It’s truly wonderful to see such growth throughout the garden. It’s our first week back and we have some wonderful things planned for this term!

Chicken Update!

The lovely ladies have settled in wonderfully, laying regularly and in a variety of sizes (refer to the photo gallery below) and enjoying regular treats and dust baths outside. Look out for our new signs so you can call then by name next time you say hello!

We would love to express our thanks to all the volunteers who give their time to help us in the garden, with the chickens and in our kitchen sessions, we couldn’t do this program without you.  Kitchen and garden classes operate on Tuesdays and we are always looking for volunteers to assist. Please let the office or Miss Davis know if you are interested in volunteering.

Garden Classes;

  • Grade 2/2A from 10:20-11:00am
  • Grade 3/4S from 9:00-9:40am

Kitchen Classes;

  • Grade 4’s from 11:30am-1:00pm
  • Grade 3’s from 2:10-3:30pm

If you are unable to join us for classes, perhaps you could come along to the Stephanie Alexander Garden working bee on Sunday 27th of October between 9:00am-12:00pm. There are plenty of jobs to do, any time you can spare would be greatly appreciated.

Later in the term, we are planning to hold a market stall and sell some of the wonderful produce that comes from our kitchen and garden. Students will be working hard to propagate plants and prepare food for sale.  We are now collecting jars with lids that would be suitable for jams (no plastic), please send any to Miss Davis in room 4. Thank you.
