Principal's Report

From the Principal...

Welcome to our final few weeks of the year. I simply cannot believe this term has raced away from us all. I have thoroughly enjoyed visiting the Year 6 rooms to see them reminiscing about their time at Ormond PS and how they have evolved in to confident and independent young people ready to tackle the world of secondary school. Likewise, the Foundation students are well and truly ready for Year One and they have coped extremely well with our transition and stepping up program. The school is currently finalising staffing for 2020 and we are mindful of classroom locations to ensure minimal disruptions.  Regular building updates will be posted on boards around the school and significant changes to routines will be communicated through COMPASS posts.

2020 – Excitement and Anticipation

I need the entire community to understand that 2020 will present with ongoing interruptions due to building works. In saying this, I need all of you to recognize that the final outcomes will be exceptional and what every child deserves at our school. Some classes will need to decant at times and others may experience higher levels of building noise but the school and department are working together to eliminate or lessen some of those conditions. Planning for 2020 has been far more rigorous based on the needs of certain cohorts and individuals across the school.  There will be a lot of movement and changes based on decisions made to effectively keep students safe and the school operational during this time. I ask families to respect the planning time and discussions we have had with builders and departmental representatives so that we can all eventually enjoy new facilities and teaching and learning spaces. The STEAM centre is well under way and the children are truly excited by opportunities to engage in Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths and Arts related tasks.

Staffing

The school has secured a solid and well skilled leadership team for 2020 which is made up of the following staff members:

  • Kerri Mc (Principal)
  • Lorrie D (Assistant Principal)
  • Gregg W (Wellbeing Leader)
  • Effie L (Literacy Leader)
  • Amy J (Inquiry Leader) - NEW
  • Lorraine B (Numeracy Leader)
  • Sally B (F-2 Departmental Leader)
  • Justin W (3-4 Departmental Leader) - NEW
  • Courtney M (5-6 Departmental Leader)

These key people will meet on a regular basis to lead and drive whole school improvement across all areas of the school. They are tapping in to feedback from our school review and ensuring our goals and targets are being met for the benefit of every student at our school.

School Events

The junior school has been a buzz of activity with students rehearsing items for their concert performances this week. The matinee performance and evening show last night was received well by both audiences. I look forward to seeing the show tonight and I thank both staff and students for their efforts in rehearsing items and polishing their performances. Our little heroes and villains truly shine on the big stage. Tomorrow evening we look forward to seeing all of you at our end of year community event.

Please come along and join staff, children and parents tomorrow (Friday 29th) evening 5pm to 8pm to celebrate the end of a wonderful year. The weather looks pleasant and I know the organisers have prepared a number of activities to keep everyone entertained. I look forward to spending the time chatting and mingling with families at this social event.

Outstanding Absences

End of year student reports are in the final stages of being completed by teachers, and a part of the reports is student attendance. So that the most accurate data can be uploaded into your child's Semester 2 Reports, could all parents please ensure that they approve and process any outstanding absences for their child on Compass by Friday 6th December 2019. If you have any issues regarding Compass please contact the office.
