Re-establishing our Reading Routine

As we slowly settle back into our school day routines, it's time to settle back into our reading routine!  Undoubtedly, many of our students will be feeling weary after being in school shoes and having focused all day, but we still have a few weeks to consolidate this routine at home.

Currently, students are able to bring home and return to school our 'take home' books. Borrowing from the library is not permitted yet, but remember that you can access the Wheelers e-platform collection on our student landing page.

I encourage you to establish a time that works for your family to continue to foster that love and enjoyment of reading.

I look forward to seeing everyone on-site again very soon!

FAMILY MATHS CHALLENGE - WITH A TWIST

As we enter our final weeks of Remote Learning I have a different Family Maths Challenge for you.

Many families have spent more time than ever walking around the block, down the street or around their local oval.

My challenge for you is to see what mathematics you can see, create, invent or notice on your next family walk.

For example,

  • You may count by 2s using the numbers on the letterbox
  • Compare the number of steps it takes each family member to walk from one street to the next
  • Count the number of different shapes on the houses you walk past
  • Identify patterns in the flowers
  • Find the largest number plate number you can

The possibilities are endless!

Please email me your responses by Thursday 4th November.

Your response may be written, drawn, photographed. Anything you choose. Be creative!

There will be a small prize for the most creative response. I look forward to seeing all of your entries.

Keep trying your best and we are looking forward to seeing everyone back at St. James very soon.
