Middle Years

Middle Years Final Service
The End of Year Service was a wonderful celebration of student engagement and success.
Those recognised for their outstanding achievements as individuals and as part of a team, deserve to feel very proud. We understand that success at that level does not come easily. Each one of the students presented for their academic, sporting, service or cultural achievements earnt their place on the awards list through a lot of hard work, commitment and passion. On behalf of all of their teachers, I thank them for their engagement as learners and wish them more of the same success next year. I am certain that their commitment to learning and to College life is a positive example to others.
Over the break, I encourage students to day-dream their way into next year and try to visualise what they want that year to look like for them. What will they have achieved this time next year? Who amongst our cohort will have been recognised in the 2018 service? How many of them will have taken the risk to apply for a leadership role, or signed up for a competition? Who amongst them will have given the commitment it takes to perform at the top of their chosen field? If you they visualise it, they can achieve it.
I hope that Christmas and the holidays bring you and your families much joy and celebration of the values you hold dear. I look forward to the return of our middle years students in 2018 for another fantastic year.

Middle School Music Concert
The Middle School Concert took place on Wednesday 29 November. This night included Year 7s, 8s and 9s and plus some Year 6s from Good Shepherd Lutheran Primary School. This night was a great opportunity for students to show their families what they have been doing in Music.
On the night there were 3 bands that played. The Middle Years Band, which included mostly Year 7s, 2 Year 6s, a few Year 8s and one Year 9 started off the night with pieces such as ‘Great Balls of Fire’ and ‘Born to Be Wild’. The Year 8 Band performed ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ and the ‘Mission Impossible Theme’. The Year 9 Band performed ‘Viva La Vida’, which featured Meaghan Koch as a vocalist, and ‘Jailhouse Rock’, which featured various improvised solos.
The newly formed Clarinet Ensemble (which included one tenor saxophone) also performed two pieces and a number of brave soloists performed solos, including highlights such as Michael Finn’s amazing vocal solo ‘Danny Boy’ and Bao Nguyen’s beautiful piano solo ‘Again’.
Overall, the night was a great experience for young students to perform and to show off their talents. There was also an encouraging atmosphere and we all enjoyed eating the supper together at the end!
