Book Week 2022

Our Book Week bonanza is nearly here!

The St Mary's College library team is so excited for this year's Children's Book Council of Australia's annual Book Week, which will take place from Monday 22 August to Friday 26 August.

The Book Week 2022 theme is 'Dreaming with Eyes Open...' which acknowledges Australia's First Nations people and their rich story-based culture.

There will be a variety of events and competitions occurring throughout the week, so please take note of which activity or event applies to you.

Tuesday 23 August

Visiting author

We have acclaimed author, Emily Conolan conducting workshops with our Year 5 and 6 students. Tuesday will also be a 'reading only' day at lunchtime.

Wednesday 24 August

Drop Everything and Read

The whole school will come together to celebrate the joy of reading, with our Senior School students buddying up with and reading to the Junior School students. It is always an endearing activity and strengthens the strong pastoral community the students share.

Book Week Dress Up and Parade

We will also be holding our Senior School and Junior School dress up parades on this day.

The Senior School will parade at lunchtime and the Junior School will start at 1.45pm so that parents picking children up at the end of the day may be able to attend.

We are thrilled to be able to have Junior School students in costume for the entire day again this year, so if your child is escorted to and from school in a private vehicle, they have permission to attend and leave in costume.

Those who walk or catch public transport can wear their PE uniform and get changed at the beginning and end of the day.

Please take into consideration comfort and the variables in weather. Ensure your child stays warm with adequate layering underneath their costume, a jacket, and suitable footwear for play times outside.

Thursday 25 August

The Senior School students will challenge the staff to a debate.

Friday 26 August

There will be a poetry slam in the library at lunchtime, as well as colouring-in competitions, a quiz and a design-a-badge contest.

Senior students are also eligible to enter a writing competition, and don't forget the ever-popular pet reading competition. Please check the school notices for further details and entry dates.

All entries will be on display in the Student Resource Centre during and after Book Week. Winners will be announced at Line Up on Monday 29 August.

The library team has been working hard to ensure we all enjoy the spoils and fun that books bring us.

We hope you will be able to come and join in some of the excitement with us!
