Student achievements

Congratulations to the following students:

Jorgia Eyles, Lucy Breen (Year 6) and Nicola Morgan (Year 12), whose talents have been recognised in the Tasmanian division of the 2022 'What Matters?' national writing competition.

The students were among just 11 Tasmanian students to receive this honour, with their entries selected from almost 300 submissions statewide covering poetry, fiction and non-fiction—a tremendous achievement!

A big congratulations to Lucy, who was crowned state winner of the Year 5/6 category; Jorgia, who received a highly commended award (Year 5/6) and Nicola, who was named state runner-up in the Year 11/12 category.

And in news just in: We are thrilled to announce that Jorgia and Nicola's entries have been shortlisted for the national awards!

Well done to you both for bravely sharing your powerful and inspiring stories, titled 'Weathering the storm' and 'What matters is time' respectively, which are available to read online here, under the Year 5/6 and Year 11/12 category headings.

Inspired by Gough Whitlam’s commitment to involving young people in the shaping of Australia's future, the competition gives students in Years 5-12 the opportunity to explore current issues and make informed commentary on matters affecting them.

Mackenzie Thomas (Year 9), who was crowned the first-ever female winner of the Tasmanian Junior Super 6 golf tournament, held at Ratho Farm over the recent school holidays.

In an impressive show of skill, Mackenzie defeated defending champion and number one seed, Hunter Gillard in the match play final over six holes.

Well done, Mackenzie. We can't wait to see you 'putt' your skills to use out on the College Green soon.

Mia Styles (Year 5), who received the runner-up MVP award in the mixed Division B Year 5/6 water polo competition held in Term 2.

GROK Challenge

Congratulations to the following students who achieved high scores in Grok Learning's Web.Comp 2022, a coding competition which teaches new coders from around the world how to design their own website:

Ella Holmes – Merit

Sarah Thomas – High Distinction

Alet le Grange, Sofia Lumb and Clare Wanandy – Perfect Score

Students competed for five weeks alongside more than 6,000 other students from across Australia and the world, using code to design websites of increasing sophistication and complexity.

The twist? Many of them had never written a line of code before! In the final week of the competition, students used their new coding skills and creativity to produce their own website designs and submit them into a Design Tournament, where other competitors and the public voted on the best designs in head-to-head rounds.
