Sports Department Update

Over the last couple of weeks, we have had multiple sporting events occur with students competing against students from different schools in our region.

Through this term we have had AFL, Soccer, Netball, Gippsland Volleyball and Division Cross Country.

We would like to congratulate every Junior, Intermediate and Senior School student who participated in these events.

Firstly, we are happy to announce that at Division Cross Country, Kyson Cornwall placing 1st for his age group, Riley Jessup placing 6th and Abbie Jessup placing 7th.

These students then competed at the State Cross Country on Thursday 14th July, thank you to everyone else who tried their hardest on the day and gave their best efforts!

We would like to thank parents/guardians for taking their children to the Gippsland Cross Country, without you our students would not have been able to compete, we and they appreciated it.

AFL Sports

All our year levels gave their best against other schools, but unfortunately not everyone came out with a win. Our Senior and Intermediate Girls won their first round competition and made it through to Gippsland Finals. At the Gippsland Finals the Senior Girls tried their hardest but unfortunately came out with a loss, the Intermediate Girls were able to get the win and progress to the next round   which is State level and they will compete on Tuesday 9th August, we wish nothing but the best of luck to this team.

Junior Boys had a win and made it through to Gippsland, they fought hard for the win, but unfortunately were unable to get there. Amazing efforts to make it through to the second round, they should be happy with their efforts just as much as we are.

Soccer

We are pleased to announce that the Senior Boys are though to the Gippsland round and will compete on Tuesday 30th August. Our Intermediate boys went up to help the seniors, due to not having a full team, thank you to everyone.

Our Junior Boys just missed out by a goal to make it through to the next round, their efforts were strong but just couldn’t make it.

Netball

We had multiple teams go out for each year level which was amazing to see! It was a great day out especially to see students get around each other when they were not playing, to support others who were.

Every student played their hardest and well as a team, we unfortunately did not have many teams win, but we were very close. Our senior girls B team came out with a win, with their awesome efforts, they should be proud of themselves, like we are.

Volleyball

Our junior boys made it through to the Gippsland level for Volleyball, they played on Friday 6th May and had a very successful day wining all games and making it through to state. Which they will play on Wednesday 9th November, we wish them the best of luck.

We would once again like to thank the parents/guardians of students for taking their children to the Traralgon stadium and coaching the boys on the day, we are very thankful for your efforts and allowing students to play and make it through to State.

Overall, we have had a massive term full of sporting events and are very happy with the outcome on students’ participation and their attitudes during the days.

Term 3 we have a range of sports going out, these include:

Middle School State Football (AFL) - Tuesday, August 9th

Please remember if sports are on the same day, please only sign up for the one you are MOST interested in.

 Basketball

Tuesday July 19th our senior students went and competed in Traralgon, and our girls came out with a win and will be heading off to Gippsland level on Tuesday August 16th, we wish them the best. Our boys unfortunately came out with a loss, but they were on a winning strike and just missed out by a game.

These will be happening in the gym at lunchtime. Any students are welcome to come along and tryout.

House Team Success

This year we have introduced a new way of celebrating our 4 House Team successes. We have created 3 plaques that will presented to the winners of the school Athletics and Swimming Carnivals, as well as overall House winners at the end of the year. At our whole school assembly earlier this term, we presented the Athletics and Swimming carnival plaques to the winning houses of 2022, Congratulations to the Blue Sharks. Staff House Leaders; Miss Rowlings and Mr Baldi as well as our Middle School House Leaders, Brooke Hunter and John Stephens accepted the plaques on behalf of the Blue Sharks.  House events will continue throughout the year and plaques will be on display in the gym foyer in the near future.
