Senior Boy’s Cricket:
Nossal v Berwick SC
On February 9, we ventured out to the Berwick Springs ground to play Berwick SC, a school normally very strong at cricket. Upon arriving at the ground we noticed that the run-ups had been dug up, and there were giant puddles everywhere too. This meant we had to quickly organise a change of venues. At the new venue we bowled first. Ben McDonald bowled very quickly early without reward, but Dhanusha Gamage broke the game open in an electric first over. In it he took three wickets, two of which were with consecutive balls. This put him on a hat-trick for the next over. Sadly he didn’t get it but we didn’t have to wait too long as he claimed another victim later in the over.
Other bowlers also chipped in with Aashay Desai getting a wicket in his first over, as did Kevin Nagahwatta. Srivats Varadarajan decided to up the ante: he proceeded to get two wickets in his only over, and Berwick was all out for 44.
We made a cautious start at bat, losing a few early wickets, but Rahul Mittal held the innings together and scored 22 (retired) as we passed the target. After that we kept batting, but the scorers put their pens away and so I haven’t got any more individual scores to report.
All in all it was a fun day and we now proceed to the regional finals, which will be held in about three weeks' time. Well done to the boys from both schools on the excellent spirit the game was played in.
