Last week Kindergarten had a visit from a group of volunteer lifesavers. These lifesavers are part of a Beach to Bush initiative designed to teach primary aged children about beach and water safety. We learnt so much about sun safety, rips and waves, sea creatures, basic first aid, rescues and how to get help from a lifeguard. We really enjoyed learning about all the dangerous creatures at the beach and how to signal for help when we are in the water.
In English this week we are learning the digraphs ‘th’ and ‘oo’. We are also learning new tricky words ‘what’ and ‘where’. Our storybook this week is ‘Edward the Emu’ by Sheena Knowles and Rod Clement. This is a funny book with a wonderful message: be yourself. Kindergarten found the humour in the story quite amusing as Edward tried to be a seal, a lion and a snake but in the end he realised it’s not so bad being an Emu after all.
Please note, that this week will be our last Big Write for Kindergarten this year. It’s been very rewarding seeing the confidence and the progress in writing made by our students. This week will also be our last week of sending readers home. It would be very appreciated if all readers could be returned by Wednesday next week.
As it is getting hotter, please ensure that you pack a hat and a water bottle for your child.
In Religion, we have made an Advent Wreath. This week we placed a picture of a flame on a purple candle to symbolise the weeks of waiting and preparing for Christmas. A flame will also be sent home for the students to add to the wreath that was sent home last week.
In Maths this week we are learning about two dimensional shapes. Kindergarten have a very good understanding of the language used to describe two dimensional shapes and have been busy representing circles, triangles, squares and rectangles out of different medias. In Science, we are testing what will happen to some materials when exposed to water and in PE we have learnt the Jive Bunny and the Hokey Pokey dance.
