REFLECTION

ADVENT

Last Sunday saw the beginning of Advent.  This is a time when we are asked to prepare ourselves, our hearts and minds, for the Christ who has already come, the Christ who is present now and the Christ who is promised to come.  This requires us to all be active in our participation in living and proclaiming the Good News.

This time of waiting is especially poignant in light of the events of this year.  This year we have been challenged by Covid-19, as well as instances of racism, as well as political and economic strife in our world.  It is easy to feel overwhelmed and unsure what to do next as more demands are being made on us.   Advent provides us a time to slow down and identify the movement of God in our lives.

Personal reflection does not happen aromatically. We need to intentionally set aside time to pray, read and reflect on God’s Word, and worship. Seek out opportunities for outreach, for it is in these actions that we remain alert and ready for the coming of the Lord.

This Advent our focus is “We want to be ready, when Jesus come.”

PRAYER

O Come, Lord Jesus,

and by the power of your Spirit

breathe upon us once more

so that we may remain vigilant and alert,

as we wait for your return.

As you have counted our days,

grant us the wisdom and knowledge

to do your will in every season of our lives.

We pray this through Christ our Lord.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Amen.
