Mr Garraud & Mrs Walters

STEP Day

A review of the day by Ryan Biddle:

On Thursday I went to O’Connor for a STEP day, while we were there, we got put into four groups for the four rotations: Ag farm, Science, Amazing Race O’Connor and HSIE. Out of all four groups, I think that I got the worst group possible, I had no one that I knew or was friends with in my group so I would have had a lot more fun if I was with at least one friend.

Firstly I went to the Ag Farm and we split into 3 more groups and there was one rotation on cows behaviour, one on sheep behaviour and one on chickens. Firstly I went to the cows, then the sheep and finally the chickens. After the three rotations, we watched a sheep dog going through an obstacle course and then watched someone with a whip which was cool.

Then we went to HSIE, with Miss Bell, we looked at earthquakes and tectonic plates, we simulated earthquakes with Mini Oreos and we later got to eat them, overall HSIE was pretty fun.

On our second last rotation, we went to science with Mr Fittler. We learned about sound and how sound travels, then we looked at static electricity and we all got zapped, science was really fun!

On our last rotation, we were with Mrs Roff on the Chapel and we learned how to read the timetables and we got a map and then got put into six groups and we did the Amazing Race O’Connor and it was probably my favourite rotation, my team came second, we were two minutes behind the first place team.

Overall the day was really fun and I can’t wait to go to O’Connor next year.

Netball and Touch Gala Days

Despite the sweltering heat at Tamworth last week, our Year 6 students certainly shone at the Netball and Touch Gala Days. The students showcased their sporting skills whilst balancing Sportsmanship and fun. Both sporting places enjoyed their chosen sport and it was great day had by all!

Brain Olympia

20 excited students took the long trek to the school library to participate in the St Mary's Brain Olympia. Students were buzzing with recalling trivia, creating their skits, and composing a forceful speech. Although COVID has impacted on many events this year, St Mary's are doing a fabulous job at replacing 'cancelled event' with 'virtual/ in house event'. Well done to all the students for exercising their creative and academic muscles on Tuesday!
