Classroom News - Year 5

Mrs Smith, Mr Lester and Mrs Newsome

                           Year 5 Classwork

Year 5 will be finishing off many of our units over the next few weeks. In Literacy we have been looking at Leadership and students have written some wonderful Leadership speeches. Students will be presenting their speeches as a video presentation to Years 3 - 6. We will be watching these on Tuesday in Week 9 and voting will happen on this day as well. In Mathematics our final 2 units are 3D shapes and a Chance and Data unit. In Religion we are continuing with our Advent unit. In Science, we are finishing our forces unit and in Health we are continuing to learn about being healthy.

Leadership Day

On Monday, Year 5 took part in a leadership day where together they explored the characteristics of leadership and the responsibilities that come with being a leader. Mrs McRae spoke to the children about her expectations for leaders in our school and the 2020 captains also spoke of how they have overcome the obstacles of being a leader during COVID 19.  Our 4 captains: Luke, Madeleine, Lizzie and Kyle also spent time assisting the Year 5 students with their speeches, offering fantastic advice.

The Year 5 teachers have been super proud of how well our kids have prepared their speeches and the maturity and confidence they are displaying. They are already fine leaders!

                                   Stem Day

Last week we held a wonderful STEM and Creative Arts day . On Wednesday, we participated in dance, drama and visual art activities and on Friday, we designed Sphero courses and built bridges. Students had great success and really stepped up to the challenge.

                          Thank you to all Families

As we move closer to the end of the school year we would like to thank all of our families for the wonderful support you have given our students throughout this very difficult and challenging time.
